A Sculptural White Ceramic Vase

Showa Era (1926–1989)

About the work

A graceful and contemplative white ceramic flower vessel by Sakagami Yukiko, titled “Moe” (萌), meaning “budding” or “sprouting”—a symbol of emergence and quiet vitality. This piece reflects Sakagami’s deep engagement with organic form, surface purity, and the aesthetics of restraint, hallmarks of her decades-long contribution to Japanese ceramic art.

The vessel’s vertical form is softened by subtle asymmetries and an elegantly folded rim suggestive of gently opening petals. Its matte white finish enhances the tactile presence of the piece, evoking the understated sophistication of nature interpreted through the hand of a mature artist. The signature is impressed on the base.

Accompanied by the original tomobako (signed wooden box) and artist’s documentation.
