A Murasaki Tsubo Bronze Flower Vase – Sunlight

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989-2019)

About the work

This refined bronze flower vase by Yoshihisa Hasegawa belongs to the celebrated category of Murasaki Tsubo (紫壺), a distinctive bronze ware known for its unique purple-patterned finish achieved through expert patination. Titled “Sunlight”, the vase features an elongated ovoid body that rises to a narrow mouth, its smooth surface enlivened by a subtle interplay of violet, brown, and dark metallic tones that shift under the light. The work embodies both simplicity and quiet elegance, designed as an ichirin-zashi (single-stem vase) to hold a single flower or stand alone as a sculptural object.

The surface coloration is characteristic of the Murasaki Tsubo tradition, where variations in hue evoke depth and atmosphere, creating a contemplative and refined presence. Complete with its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), yellow protective cloth, and certificate of authenticity, this vase exemplifies the harmony of material, form, and patina.
