A Shino Yunomi (志野湯呑)

Showa Era (1926-1989), Heisei Era (1989-2019) or Reiwa Era (2019-present)

About the work

A striking Shino yunomi by Kato Toyohisa, a distinguished potter from a renowned Mino lineage. This vessel exemplifies the rustic elegance of Shino ware, combining bold surface textures with the warmth of traditional feldspathic glazes. The tall cylindrical form is covered in a creamy white glaze, dramatically accented by iron-rich markings that flow across the surface in natural, flame-like patterns. The interior and base bear further speckling and kiln variations, lending depth and individuality to the piece.

This yunomi is accompanied by its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box), protective cloth, and paper insert, all attesting to its authenticity as a work of functional tea ware and collectible Mino pottery.
