About the work

A delicate Shino yunomi by Kozo Kato, Living National Treasure and one of the foremost masters of Mino ceramics. The vessel is glazed in soft pinkish-white with fine crackling and scattered gray and red kiln markings, producing a surface of quiet warmth and natural variation. Its compact cylindrical form reflects the refined simplicity characteristic of Shino tea wares.

Accompanied by its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box), cloth, and paper insert.

Footnote

Born in 1935 in Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture, Kozo Kato was a key figure in the lineage of Mino ceramics. As a third-generation successor of the Mino tradition, he carried forward the legacy established by first-generation master Toyozo Arakawa. Kato served as president, honorary president, and advisor of the Mino Ceramic Society and was honored as a citizen of merit in Mizunami, Tajimi, and Kani.
