A Cast-Bronze Vessel “Kansho” (朱銅壷 喚鐘)

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989-2019)

About the work

A powerful cast-bronze vessel by Hasuda Shugoro, a master renowned for elevating metal sculpture into the realm of fine art. The form is cylindrical with a gently flaring profile and a slightly tapered neck, creating a dignified presence reminiscent of a bell’s silhouette. The surface exhibits rich red-bronze coloration with flowing tonal variations and purposeful textural contrasts. Three incised vertical lines accentuate the front, adding subtle architectural tension to the otherwise smooth contour.

This work reveals the sculptor’s signature approach to bronze as an expressive medium, where patination, mass, and form are handled with both restraint and commanding artistry. Artist’s mark impressed on the base. Includes original wooden box and documentation.
