Mitsuo Kano (叶光夫)
Mitsuo Kano (1903–1970) was a Japanese ceramic artist and Nitten councilor known for his rigorous study of East Asian ceramic traditions and refined white porcelain works. Born in Hyogo Prefecture, he trained at the Kyoto Ceramic Research Institute before studying ancient Chinese ceramics in Dalian from 1920. His career combined scholarship and practice, and after the war he became a central figure in Japan’s major national exhibitions. Kano’s work received numerous awards and was acquired by institutions including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and museums in Paris and São Paulo. He also served repeatedly as a juror for Nitten and contemporary craft exhibitions.
