Morikazu Kimura (木村盛和)
Morikazu Kimura (1921–2015) was a Japanese ceramic artist born in Kyoto and known for his rigorous exploration of iron based glazes. The son of an overglaze painter, he developed a strong technical foundation through research on clay bodies and iron glazes at the National Ceramic Research Institute. Kimura was closely involved in the founding of the Japan Kōgei Association, contributing significantly to the postwar development of traditional crafts. He devoted his practice to tenmoku and iron glazes, ultimately creating his own distinctive iron copper glaze. His work was widely exhibited, earned major national and international awards, and remains highly regarded within Japanese ceramics.
