About the work

A "dimpled jar" (えくぼ壺) tamba ware vase by Sueharu Kiln (末晴窯). This piece features a captivating blend of glossy black glaze combined with natural textures, demonstrating the artist’s mastery of the Tamba ceramic tradition. The body is rounded with a narrowing neck, while the dynamic glaze evokes the distinctive rustic beauty of Tamba pottery. The foot remains unglazed and bears the kiln’s seal, ensuring authenticity.

Included is a tomobako (wooden storage box) and a leaflet about Tamba ceramics.

Dimensions

18 cm x 19.5 cm

Footnote

Sueharu Kiln (末晴窯 - Sueharu-gama) is a family-operated pottery in Tanba-Sasayama, a historic heartland of Tanba-Tachikui ware, one of Japan's "Six Ancient Kilns." Rooted in this rich heritage, the kiln produces ceramics that skillfully blend traditional Tanba techniques with a delicate, contemporary aesthetic.
