A Shino Yunomi (志野湯呑)

Showa Era (1926-1989), Heisei Era (1989–2019) or Reiwa Era (2019 – present)

About the work

This Shino yunomi by Ken Matsuzaki embodies the warmth and quiet strength associated with contemporary Shino ware. The form is upright and cylindrical with slight, intentional irregularities that soften the silhouette and give the cup a natural, hand formed presence. Its proportions feel balanced and comfortable in the hand, making it well suited for daily tea use.

The surface is coated in a creamy white Shino glaze, richly animated by soft iron red fire markings and scattered pinholes formed during firing. These reddish flashes and speckled textures create a lively contrast against the pale glaze, revealing the dynamic interaction between clay, glaze, and flame. The interior is smoothly fired, enhancing both visual calm and usability, while the foot reveals exposed clay and kiln effects that ground the piece materially.

The yunomi is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box, providing confirmation of authenticity and careful presentation.
