An Aka-Shino Guinomi (赤志野ぐい呑)

Showa Era (1926-1989), Heisei Era (1989-2019) or Reiwa Era (2019-present)

About the work

A fine Aka-Shino (red Shino) guinomi by Kato Toyohisa, a noted ceramic artist of Mino tradition. This small sake cup embodies the warmth and depth of Shino ware, with its distinctive feldspathic glaze and iron-rich clay firing effects.

The vessel displays a mottled surface of deep scarlet tones softened by milky white glaze pooling toward the base, a hallmark of Aka-Shino. Natural pinholing and subtle glaze variations enhance its tactile quality, while the compact, slightly irregular form lends intimacy to its use.

The guinomi is signed at the base and comes complete with its original tomobako (signed wooden storage box).
