A Seto Yuteki Chawan (瀬戸油滴茶碗)

Showa Era (1926-1989)

About the work

A remarkable Seto Yuteki (Oil-Spot) matcha chawan crafted by the 13th-generation Yamaguchi Kozaemon, a master of tea ceramics. This tea bowl features a lustrous black glaze adorned with delicate oil-spot patterns, a hallmark of finely executed tenmoku-style pottery. The slightly irregular, hand-formed shape enhances the aesthetic of wabi-sabi, emphasizing natural beauty and imperfection.

Encased in its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box) and accompanied by a protective silk pouch, authentication documents, and a tea whisk, this chawan embodies the refined artistry of the Yamaguchi lineage.
