A finely crafted Kyusu teapot by Suigetsu Shimizu, renowned for his mastery of Banko ware and the traditional purple clay (shidei) kyusu. This elegant side-handled teapot is carefully formed from smooth, unglazed clay, featuring a built-in clay mesh strainer and a refined, ergonomic silhouette. The warm reddish-purple tone and polished surface enhance both its aesthetic and functional appeal.
The teapot bears the artist’s seal on the base and is accompanied by its original tomobako (signed wooden box), cloth, and leaflet.

Born in 1944 in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, Suigetsu Shimizu is a celebrated ceramic artist specializing in Banko ware, particularly purple clay teapots. His works have been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition and the Tokai Traditional Craft Exhibition. Honored with numerous accolades, including the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award and the Mie Prefecture Cultural Award, he is widely regarded for elevating the artistry of Banko teaware.
