A Red-Bronze Dog Incense Burner (朱銅香炉 狗犬)

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989-2019)

About the work

A finely cast red-bronze incense burner by Hasuda Shugoro, one of Japan’s most celebrated modern metal sculptors. The piece depicts a seated dog rendered with stylized grace, its form both playful and dignified. The rhythmic lines of the mane, limbs, and tail exemplify Hasuda’s sculptural mastery—balancing strength and serenity within a compact, harmonious composition.

The surface exhibits a rich red-bronze patina with subtle tonal transitions, enhancing the sense of warmth and vitality. The lid lifts from the back, revealing the interior cavity for incense. The artist’s seal is cast to the underside. Housed in its original signed wooden storage box.
