A Bizen Flower Vase (備前花入)

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989-2019)

About the work

This Bizen flower vase by Yabe Atsuro reveals the expressive potential of unglazed clay shaped by flame. The vertically rising form shows gentle tapering and natural asymmetry, its surfaces enriched by vivid yohen effects produced during the wood firing. Russet tones, pale flashing, and soft green ash deposits create a layered chromatic field that shifts with the light. The rim opens in an irregular, organic flare that lends the piece a sculptural presence while maintaining the quiet dignity expected of a flower container.

The vase is accompanied by its original signed tomobako.
