A Sahari Rin (砂張鈴)

Showa Era (1926 – 1989) or Heisei Era (1989- 2019)

About the work

This rin by Iraku Uozumi III is a refined example of sahari metalwork, cast in a simple cylindrical form that emphasizes purity of shape and acoustic performance. The surface has a deep, subdued luster characteristic of sahari, a copper–tin alloy prized for its resonance and tonal clarity.

The thickened rim and carefully balanced proportions enhance the instrument’s sound, producing a clear, sustained tone with a lingering, meditative quality. The minimal decoration allows attention to focus on material, form, and sound, embodying both functional precision and aesthetic restraint.

The rin is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), cloth, and striker.
