A Sahari Rin (砂張鈴)

Showa Era (1926 – 1989) or Heisei Era (1989- 2019)

About the work

This elegant Sahari wind bell (furin) by Uozumi Iraku III exemplifies the refined metalworking traditions of Kanazawa and the remarkable acoustic qualities for which the Uozumi family became renowned. Cast in Sahari, a high-tin bronze alloy prized for its clear, resonant tone, the bell produces a delicate and lingering sound that has been appreciated in Japan for centuries.

The form is understated and harmonious, featuring a gently domed profile accented by subtle horizontal bands. Suspended beneath is the original tanzaku wind catcher, allowing even the lightest breeze to activate the bell's distinctive voice. The restrained design places emphasis on the purity of sound, reflecting the Japanese aesthetic appreciation for simplicity, seasonality, and atmosphere.

The bell is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), original tanzaku, and accompanying documentation.
