A Bronze Vase "Hana-mon" (朱銅壺 華文)

Showa Era (1926-1989)

About the work

A refined bronze vase by master metal artist Hasuda Shugoro, one of Japan's most distinguished twentieth century bronze casters. Titled “Bronze Vase with Floral Motif”, the vessel demonstrates Hasuda's exceptional command of traditional casting techniques combined with a modern sculptural sensibility.

The vase is formed in a softly swelling baluster shape with broad shoulders tapering gracefully towards a narrow foot and a restrained cylindrical neck. Its rich, dark patinated bronze surface is interrupted by a subtle horizontal division around the lower body, while two stylised floral medallions decorate the shoulder, introducing a quiet decorative accent without disturbing the purity of the form. The restrained design allows the warmth and depth of the patinated bronze to take centre stage, highlighting the artist's meticulous finishing and appreciation for simplicity.

The vase bears the artist's seal and is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako).
