A Deisai Flower Vase “Yūka” (泥彩 悠香花瓶)

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989–2019)

About the work

An elegant ceramic flower vase by Hayashi Koroku, a distinguished Kyoto ceramic artist renowned for his innovative coloured clay technique and refined decorative aesthetic. Combining sculptural form with painterly surface design, the vase exemplifies Koroku's ability to reinterpret traditional Japanese floral motifs through a contemporary artistic vision.

The vase is gracefully potted with a rounded globular body rising to a slender cylindrical neck that gently flares at the rim. The surface is finished in a rich matte black ground, providing a dramatic backdrop for a large stylised blossom rendered in soft shades of ivory, ochre, and warm gold. The delicately shaded petals radiate naturally across the body, while the textured stamen provides subtle depth and visual interest. The restrained composition allows the flower to dominate the vessel with quiet elegance, balancing bold design with refined simplicity.

The vase bears the artist's impressed seal on the underside and is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako) and original signed wrapping cloth.
