About the work

A distinguished cast bronze tray titled "Kayō" (華陽) by master metal artist Hasuda Shugorō, one of Japan's foremost twentieth century bronze sculptors. Demonstrating the artist's exceptional command of traditional bronze casting, the tray combines sculptural simplicity with meticulous craftsmanship, embodying the refined elegance that characterises Hasuda's work.

The tray is cast in a broad circular form with a gently recessed centre framed by a subtly raised rim. Three evenly spaced notched projections extend from the perimeter, introducing a rhythmic architectural element that distinguishes the otherwise restrained silhouette. The rich reddish-brown patina possesses a soft satin sheen, revealing the depth and warmth achieved through Hasuda's masterful finishing techniques. Delicately incised concentric circles radiate across the interior surface, drawing the eye toward the centre while enhancing the quiet balance of the composition.

The underside bears the artist's impressed seal and the tray is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box, original wrapping cloth, and the artist's original information booklet.
