Shinbei Sakakura (坂倉新兵衛)

Shinbei Sakakura (坂倉新兵衛) is the hereditary title held by the master of the Sakakura Shinbe Kiln, a prestigious lineage of Hagi ware potters in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The kiln's history began in 1604, when warlord Mori Terumoto brought Korean potter Li Shao-guang to Japan to establish an official kiln. Li is revered as the first generation, though the family adopted the surname "Sakakura" starting with the sixth.
