A Nezumi Shino Tea Cup (鼠志野碗)

Showa Era (1926-1989), Heisei Era (1989-2019) or Reiwa Era (2019-present)

About the work

This Nezumi-Shino cup by Kato Toyohisa, who later adopted the name 土代久, features a compact, subtly faceted form that enhances the expressive glaze work. The surface is enveloped in a soft grey-blue feldspathic glaze, characteristic of Nezumi-Shino, through which iron-rich slip appears as speckles and delicate linear fissures. These textural variations create a gentle contrast against the cool, misty ground. The interior carries the same atmospheric effect, offering a luminous depth ideal for use as a yunomi or shochu cup.

The piece is accompanied by its original signed tomobako.
