An Iga Yunomi (伊賀湯呑)

Showa Era (1926-1989), Heisei Era (1989-2019) or Reiwa Era (2019-present)

About the work

This yunomi by Fujioka Shuhei exemplifies the expressive qualities of Iga ware, shaped with a slightly irregular cylindrical form and subtle faceting (shinogi) that gives it a strong tactile presence.

The surface reveals dynamic kiln transformation (yohen), with feldspathic white and pale green glaze flowing over warm, fire-marked orange clay. Natural ash effects, pinholing, and granular textures highlight the intensity of high-temperature firing, while green glaze accents create a sense of movement across the vessel. The uneven rim further enhances its organic character.

The piece is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako).
