A Tenmoku-Glazed Triangular Flower Vase (天目釉三角花器)

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989-2019) or Reiwa Era (2019 – present)

About the work

A masterfully sculpted triangular flower vase by Malcolm Wright, an American ceramic artist deeply influenced by Japanese pottery traditions. The vase features a rich, lustrous Tenmoku glaze, creating a deep black surface with warm iron undertones along its angular edges. The bold geometric form, combined with Wright’s signature hand-carved openings, evokes a sense of movement and balance, making this piece both functional and sculptural.

Included with the vase is a tomobako (signed wooden storage box), ensuring authenticity and provenance. A striking work of ceramic artistry, perfect for both traditional and modern interiors.
