A Nezumi Shino Flower Vase (鼠志野花生)

Showa Era (1926-1989) or Heisei Era (1989-2019)

About the work

An exquisite Nezumi Shino (Gray Shino) flower vase by Kato Takuo, a renowned ceramic artist and Living National Treasure celebrated for his mastery of Shino and Persian lusterware techniques. This striking vase features a soft grayish-white glaze with rich iron-oxide markings, characteristic of the Nezumi Shino style. The organic cylindrical form, subtly faceted and slightly undulating rim, enhances the tactile and visual appeal of the piece.

Accompanied by its original tomobako (signed wooden storage box), this vase is a remarkable example of Kato Takuo’s dedication to traditional Mino ware aesthetics, blending historical influences with modern sensibilities.
