A Framed Ceramic Wall Plaque (陶板額装)

Heisei Era (1989–2019) or Reiwa Era (2019–present)

About the work

A finely executed framed ceramic plaque by Yuzo Taniguchi, renowned for his painterly approach to ceramics. The work features a delicately rendered white lily in bloom, its soft petals and verdant leaves gracefully emerging against a warm, textured ochre ground. The subtle gradations of glaze and the natural granular surface reveal Taniguchi’s exceptional control of ceramic coloration and firing.

Set within a deep wooden frame that enhances its sense of quiet refinement, the piece blurs the boundary between painting and pottery, a hallmark of Taniguchi’s oeuvre, where clay becomes both canvas and pigment.

Accompanied by its original storage box and artist’s biography sheet.
