A Brass Single-Stem Flower Vase (黄銅一輪生)
Showa Era (1926-1989)
About the work
A refined brass single-stem flower vase by Hasuda Shugoro, one of Japan's most celebrated twentieth-century metal artists. Renowned for his ability to combine traditional bronze casting techniques with a distinctly modern sculptural sensibility, Hasuda created works of exceptional simplicity, where flawless proportion and subtle surface treatment become the principal expressions of beauty.
The vase is composed of a series of precisely balanced cylindrical forms rising to a slender neck designed to accommodate a single flower stem. The harmonious geometry is enhanced by a series of finely turned concentric bands encircling the lower section, introducing rhythm without disrupting the purity of the silhouette. Executed in brass with a warm bronze-toned patina, the surface possesses a soft satin finish that catches the light delicately, emphasising the vessel's architectural form.
The vase bears the artist's signature and is accompanied by its original protective cloth and artist's information leaflet.
